National Vision Health Month: A Reminder for Medicare Agents on the Importance of Prioritizing Vision Health Support with Your Clients

May is National Vision Month, an important time to highlight the significance of maintaining healthy eyes. As Medicare agents, it’s crucial to remind your clients about the importance of regular eye exams, encouraging them to prioritize their vision health and seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms.

Support and Inform!

Regular vision exams are essential for detecting eye diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, as well as identifying any vision problems. Early detection and treatment of vision issues can prevent further damage and promote good overall health.

As Medicare agents, it’s also crucial to educate your clients about Medicare coverage for vision services. Medicare Part B covers an annual comprehensive eye exam for individuals at high risk for glaucoma, as well as exams for individuals with diabetes, macular degeneration, and other medical conditions.

Assist your clients in staying vigilant and proactive by informing them of the most frequent symptoms associated with declining eye health:

  • Blurred or fuzzy vision
  • Difficulty seeing at night or in dim light
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Eye strain or fatigue
  • Seeing flashes of light or experiencing floaters in your vision
  • Difficulty reading or seeing up close
  • Headaches or eye pain
  • Redness, itching, or burning in the eyes
  • Double vision or halos around lights
  • Difficulty distinguishing colors

Should your client be experiencing any of the above symptoms, it is important that you recommend they speak with their provider and schedule an eye exam immediately.

Become an advocate and help raise awareness!

This month also serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the impact that vision loss can have on individuals and their families. Encourage your clients to seek support from local organizations that provide resources and assistance for individuals with vision loss.

Let’s work together to promote awareness, support, and access to care for all individuals. By prioritizing vision health and advocating for it, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to maintain good vision health throughout their lives.
